Building Constitutional Awareness in Classrooms

As part of the Asma Jahangir Fellowship Program by the Pakistan Justice and Rights Initiative (PJ&RI), Tahreem Amanullah and Sidra-tul-Muntaha conducted a school-based awareness session at Helpers School, Satellite Town, Quetta on 5 June 2026.

The session focused on Human Rights and the Constitution of Pakistan, aiming to introduce students—particularly young girls—to the fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution and their importance in everyday life.

With over 40 students in attendance, along with the school administration, the fellows began by explaining the basic concept of human rights and how these rights form the foundation of a just society. The discussion then connected these principles with the Constitution of Pakistan, highlighting its role as the legal protector of citizens’ rights.

A key part of the session focused on Fundamental Rights (Articles 8 to 28), including equality before law, right to life and liberty, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, right to education, freedom of assembly and association, and protection from discrimination. These concepts were explained in simple language to ensure accessibility and understanding.

Students actively participated throughout the session, asking questions and sharing their thoughts, which turned the presentation into an interactive learning experience rather than a one-way lecture.

By the end of the session, students demonstrated a clearer understanding of their constitutional rights and expressed interest in learning more about civic and legal awareness. The activity successfully created an environment of dialogue, awareness, and empowerment among young learners.
