Abida Shaheen Leads Interactive Session at GGMS Bai Khel

As part of the Asma Jahangir Human Rights Fellowship, Abida Shaheen conducted an awareness session at Government Girls Middle School (GGMS), Muhalla Bai Khel, Hazara Battagram, focusing on the theme “Know Your Rights – Human Rights, Constitutional Rights & Protection from Harassment.”

The session aimed to equip young students with essential knowledge about their rights, responsibilities, and the legal protections available to them. Through an engaging and interactive discussion, students were introduced to the concepts of human rights, constitutional rights guaranteed under the Constitution of Pakistan, the right to education, equality, dignity, freedom of expression, and protection from discrimination.

A significant part of the session focused on women’s rights, gender equality, and awareness about different forms of harassment, including verbal, physical, and online harassment. Students were also informed about the steps they can take when their rights are violated and the mechanisms available for reporting harassment and seeking protection.

What made the session particularly impactful was the enthusiasm shown by the participants. Students actively engaged in discussions, asked thoughtful questions, and shared their perspectives on issues affecting their lives. By using relatable examples and practical scenarios, complex legal concepts were made accessible and meaningful for the young audience.

The session concluded with a renewed sense of confidence among participants, encouraging them to recognize their rights, stand against injustice, and seek support whenever needed. Through this fellowship-led initiative, Abida Shaheen contributed to strengthening legal awareness and empowering young girls with knowledge that can help them make informed decisions and advocate for themselves in the future.
